Rumors of an unannounced New York wedding for Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z drove celebrity watchers into a frenzy Friday evening as they strained to parse the clues.

There was certainly an event: Family descended on Jay-Z's Manhattan apartment building along with celebrity guests including Gwyneth Paltrow with husband Chris Martin and Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child.

And it was fancy: People reported that a florist was hired to provide up to 60,000 white orchid blooms from Thailand for a "big party."

Oh, and one more clue: The couple reportedly got a New York marriage license on Tuesday.
